The purpose of this initiative is to provide support to most needy families within various villages in Kenya. Such assistance will be in terms of livestock, such as a sheep or goats, school fees, family essentials, etc. This support is intended to be for one year – 12 months - just to get the family “back on its feet”. It is NOT intended as a long-term financial assistance program!
The Family to Family program matches a Helping Hands Family in the USA with one of the identified most needy families within a village. The obligation of the HelpingHands Family is to donate $360, which is used during the 12 months to support the needy family.
Each of the needy Families are “managed” individually with respect to what they receive each or every other month. For some it is school fees, and yet others it maybe one or more animals, (such as a sheep or goat), bed and mattress, or just a mattress. It is important that the funds are expended throughout the 12 months – not all within the first six months or so!
The local individuals who manage the program with these families in Kenya interacts with them to determine what the priority needs are - creating an annual budget for the $360. This budget is then shared with Helping Hands and managed by the local Village representative. The support is tailored to the needs of each family.
Each donor will receive the satisfaction of knowing that they are making a significant difference in the lives of a most needy and vulnerable family. Each donor will also receive the following:
