Helping Hands Kenya (HHK) is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization. We are dedicated to the care of at-risk orphans and widows in the villages which surround Nairobi, Kenya.
Some of the orphans have single parents left behind after HIV/AIDS has ravished their family while others we serve are elderly grandparents who are left to raise the orphans. Still other families have only an older sibling (12-17 yrs old) to provide for them.
These children and families are not eligible for assistance from other groups because of old familial property deeds which are buried in bureaucratic red tape. Meanwhile, the kids may eat infrequently and because of this they are stunted in growth, have medical issues such as malnutrition, become homeless as relatives do not have the resources to take care of them and most of the orphans are unable to attend school.
The Impact Moments
Helping Hands Kenya is dedicated to relieving the hunger of orphans and widows and to keep them from living in slums and dumps or on the city streets. HHK seeks to promote, encourage and support with resources the family dynamic where the orphans and the widows will be able to continue to live with relatives. By our focus, they will remain connected to their own relatives and communities as an alternative to an orphanage.
Helping Hands Kenya is funded by donations of like-minded friends throughout the world. HHK is a 100% volunteer organization, with virtually 0% expenses. Since 2005 we have been able to send most of the donations directly to the cost of goods which go directly to the families of the orphans and widows we help.
